Dessers Admits He’s Curious About His Future Prospects At Genk

Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Cyriel Dessers has admitted he is curious to know what the future holds for him at the Jupiler League club, even as he acknowledged that the officials have to tried to keep every agreement they had before he joined them, BSNSports.com.ng reports. While his fortunes have not been as rosy as were expected when he made the switch from Heracles Almelo of Holland, with which he emerged joint-top scorer last season in the Dutch Eredivisie, Dessers conceded that he is still weighing his options heading into the second half of the season. He added that not being invited to the Super Eagles’ camp for their recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers were equally disappointing for him, but quickly interjected that he is not one to get discouraged or start harbouring regrets. Consequently, rather than see his decision to join Genk as a setback that has affected him at club and national team levels, the lad with a Belgian father and Nigerian mother said he is determined to keep working hard in order to get a turnaround of fortunes. He further declared that he is not thinking about quitting the Super Eagles, despite his omission from the squad list for the double-AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone, having logged only 73 minutes in the Belgian First Division A since he returned from his Nigeria debut in an international friendly against Tunisia last month. The 25-year-old attacker, who appeared very active and vibrant as a second half substitute for the Eagles against Algeria, but could not save the Nigerian side from losing 2-1, lamented his lot in not been among several players who were called up for national team action over the past few days. Dessers told Tubantia:”Thirteen internationals are missing. Last time Paul and I went together, this time I was not called up. I understand that. “I hope and assume that I will be back in the future. Genk has met me with a plan, so I am curious about how things will go in the near future.”
