Nigeria's Super Eagles striker Cyril Dessers has revealed the reason he left Belgium Jupiler league Club RKC Genk for Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
After a remarkable outing in the Dutch league in the year 2020, Dessers secured a move to Genk but was unable to make his mark in the team due to the presence of his compariot Paul Onuachu who was on top of his game.
Dessers decided to return to Feyenoord on loan and has been able to stamp his authority in the team.
"Especially last season I put the team interests above my own," said Dessers.
"I said to myself, I would rather sit on the bench with a team that takes the title or that finishes second and wins the cup, than with a team that finishes fifth or sixth.
"And I had an important role in the dressing room. I can say, Guys, don't count on me anymore, but I'm not like that."
"During the play-offs I went to technical director Dimitri de Condé at some point, I said: "It's done for me, really. There were still three games left I told him
"For me it is it closed. I still scored three times in those three last matches," he said.
