A group of Concerned Sports Stakeholders in Nigeria has warned the Minister of Sports Development, Sunday Dare to rescind the decision on dissolution of 31 Federations within two days or face legal action.
This is contained in statement signed by the Public Relation Officer of the group, Adebayo Ogunbanjo which reads: "We, a group known as Concerned Sports Stakeholders are worried over the recent highhandedness and recklessness recently exhibited by the Sports Minister, Mr Sunday Dare.
"We are also disturbed by the untimely dissolution of all sports federations who are yet to complete their 4 year term as duly and democratically elected board members.
"We are troubled that Mr.Dare's recent action is inimical to the growth of sports in Nigeria and will adversely affect Nigeria’s performance at the forthcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.
It is also worrisome how a right thinking administrator will decide to dissolve sports federations with just two months to the Olympic Games. His recent action may most likely be a clog in the wheel of progress as far as sports adminstration is concerned, coming on the heels of a major international event.
“The Minister's dictatorial display on Friday,April 29,2021 wherein he dissolved the National Sports Federations is condemnable and may lead to anarchy in Nigeria's sporting sector.
“We, the Sports Stakeholders are calling on Mr.Sunday Dare, through this statement, to rescind his decision within the next 48 hours or face legal action”.
