D'Tigress: Nigeria Contingent Depart Nigeria For FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifiers By Niyi Busari As the race for the 2022 FIBA women's world cup intensifies, Nigeria contingent to the FIBA women's world cup qualifiers in Serbia on Monday departed for the country with high hopes of securing the qualifications ticket. Home-based, Akaraiwe Ikem, coach Aderemi Adewunmi and Secretary General of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Adebisi Afolabi left the shores of the country to be joined by 11 foreign based players to make up the 12 man team that will represent Nigeria at the qualifiers. The competition which is scheduled to hold from February 10-13, 2022 will see the African champions compete in group B alongside Mali, France and China. The qualifiers which has four teams in four groups will see only the top three in each group qualify for the FIBA Women's Basketball world Cup later in the year in Australia. Group A of the qualifiers consists of Australia, Korea, Serbia and Brazil. Belarus, Japan, Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina will slug it out in group C, while Russia, USA, Belgium and Puerto Rico will fight for a place in Australia in group D.
