D'Tigress: Nigerians Blast NBBF Over Part-payment of Unpaid Bonuses, Allowance By Niyi Busari Nigerians took a swipe at the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) following the part-payment of D'Tigress unpaid bonuses and allowance, BSN sports.com.ng can report. The NBBF on November 5 on the official Facebook page posted that D'Tigress have received part of the Adopt-a-athlete money donated by three banks for the ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. The statement on the official Facebook page reads, "D'Tigress players have all received their part of the Adopt A Sport initiative payments as confirmed by the Central Bank of Nigeria "Each got $9,500 which confirmed NBBF's position that no fund got misappropriated, misapplied or embezzled directly or indirectly by the board. "As earlier maintained by the NBBF President, Engr Musa Kida, all outstanding bonuses and allowances will be paid when Federal Government fulfils its part in offsetting outstanding budgetary allocations for the team and other international engagements." Recall that D'Tigress had to stage a protest in a viral video calling the NBBF and the Ministry of Sports to offset all their unpaid bonuses and allowance before they can continue playing for the country. Nigerians however expressed their dissatisfaction with the NBBF and pleaded that they should pay the remaining balance of bonus and allowance owed since 2018. John Owoniyi, a Facebook user said, "Why are you making it look like you're doing them a favour by paying this 9k Dollars? The remaining allowances and bonuses should be paid ASAP. They deserve every dime the Federal Government, Sport Ministry, NBBF is owing them. Shiorrrrrrrrrr. Adetola Shanu also contributed, "its still fraud you keep such a large amount in whise ever account for such a ling tine what happened to the interest. Solomon Ordu said, "Stop defending your actions. This is shameful. Who the hell is this admin?? "The payment is their hard work not a favour. Pay all their bonuses, apologies to the team for the misunderstanding, that's the best way to resolve this, tens of Nigerian players may never agree to play for us again if your pride and arrogance as leaders would allow, mend this broken bond." Another Facebook user added. Princi Ing said, "For all the while these athletes were owed money, they didn’t post that information publicly. Now that they’ve managed to pay some pittance, it’s splashed on NBBF page as if this is something to be celebrated. Why weren’t the athletes paid in full when they fulfilled their tournament obligations? When they participated in those championships that they won, did they offer Nigeria partial effort? Besides, the Minister claimed over a week ago that the money owed to these athletes was intact in CBN account…untouched. If that was indeed the case, why aren’t they being paid in full? There’s nothing worth celebrating here folks. It’s actually embarrassing that even after so much haggling and pressure from the public coupled with legislative hearing, the NBBF is still incapable of settling all her financial obligation to Nigerian athletes. Shame!!! Mark Nuhu was shocked to read that former president of NBBF Musa Kida was being referred to as the president. "Nawao! Is Kida still the NBBF president? Ebenezer who was also shocked to read that the former president was being referred to as president asked why, "Why is Kida still being referred to ad NBBF president? He is the former president. This journalism is highly skewed. "I've never seen something like this honestly. This is supposed to be an official page but it seems to be promotion only Kida's activities." He added. Recall that D'Tigress had to stage an online protest stating that until their demands are met they will boycott the World Cup qualifiers games slated for next year. They reiterated that the requests are beyond the unpaid bonuses and allowance. Hosting of the team by President Mohammadu Buhari at the Aso Villa, payment of all bonuses and allowance since 2018, availability of Arena and bus for the team and specific amount as match bonus and allowance are among the request.
