Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi is set to miss out Nigeria's last 16 clash at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after sustaining a knee injury during Sunday’s shock defeat to Madagascar. Mikel could not take part in Monday’s recovery session with a swelling in the knee and is now ruled out of action for at least seven days.

"He has hematoma in the knee," Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr was quoted as saying to colinudoh.com

"We don't know how soon he can again play but we wait for the medical team,” Rohr added.

Meanwhile, Mikel insists Super Eagles squad members are still struggling to find their rhythm at AFCON, following Sunday’s shock loss to Madagascar. “Obviously, the criticism will come from our people that we love. But this is football, you are going to get criticised. We have to take the criticism and improve,” Mikel noted

“We didn’t play well and I think that in the tournament so far we haven’t really found our way to play,” he added. “But we’ve won two games and lost one now. It’s better this happened now than in the knockout stages. Now we know as a team we have to improve, we have to do better.”
