Eagles' Friendly Games: Why Rohr Invited Six New Players Into Camp By Niyi Busari Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr invited six new players into camp to have more options in different positions and also to replace injured players, BSNSports.com.ng reports. This is revealed by Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye on Saturday during an interview on a radio programme in Lagos. Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr extended invitation to Cyriel Dessers, Chidera Ejuke, Samson Tijani, Mathew Yakubu, Frank Onyeka and Zaidu Sanusi, the six players have the opportunity to debut for Nigeria in the two international friendly matches on 9th and 13th October. "There are number of reasons, for example in the goalkeeping department, we have injuries, we have players who are just recovering from long spell on the sideline and there is also a player who is out because of inactivity, the league is not on in Nigeria." Ibitoye said. "So, that explains why we are having new goalkeepers. Out of four goalkeepers that are coming to camp, two have been there before while two are coming for the first time." He added. "I think it is good because we can have more options in the goalkeeping department and there is no team that is perfect, that doesn't need new players particularly if these players are good. "Some of the new players that have impressed in Europe, Zaidu Sanusi for example, made a big move from his modest club in Portugal to FC Porto, we have a Ejuke who has moved from the Dutch league to CSKA Moscow which is a big move too. "So, it is an opportunity for these players to come and show the qualities that have helped them to make such big move in Europe, we are happy that they are coming at least to give us options and lay claims to be a part of the team, because when a team is competitive and you have players who are of equal quality on and off the field, that is what I think is responsible for why our team is this way." He concluded. Nigeria will play international friendly matches against Algeria on 9th and Tunisia on 13th October. Both games will take place in Austria.
