Eagles Get Tunisian, Algerian Referees For Liberia, Cape Verde Matches

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will have referees from Tunisia and Algeria for their upcoming final two matches of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, as they battle Liberia in Tangier, Morocco and host Cape Verde in Lagos, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Eagles will first be away to Liberia in their penultimate game for the second round of Africa elimination series in the race to Qatar 2022, following which they will host Cape Verde in the final fixture.

Both matches will determine if the three-time African champions will be one of ten countries in the final play-off stage for the decisive five that will make it to Qatar 2022, ahead of which Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr will welcome 23 players to camp on Monday in Tangier.

The game on Saturday, November 13 will have a 42-year-old Tunisian, Youssef Essrayri, as centre referee at Grand Stade de Tangier, in a reverse fixture of the Day 1 clash that Nigeria won 2-0 at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on 3rd September, thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s brace.

Essrayri will be assisted by his compatriots Aymen Ismail (assistant referee 1), Youssef Jami (assistant referee 2) and Mehrez Melki (fourth official), while former FIFA-graded arbiter, Seli Zinko from Cote d’Ivoire will be referee assessor.

Sullay Kamara from Sierra Leone will be match commissioner for the encounter, which is billed to begin at 6pm Morocco time, while Dr Bilal Mohamed Rida from the host nation will serve as medical officer.

For the clash with Cape Verde’s Blue Sharks at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Tuesday, 16th November, FIFA has listed Algeria’s Mustapha Ghorbal as referee, to be assisted by compatriots Mokrane Gourari (assistant referee 1), Abbes Akram Zerhouni (assistant referee 2) and Lahlou Benbraham (fourth official).

Ivorian Nomandiez Doue, another former FIFA referee, will be the assessor with Sierra Leonean Prince Kai Saquee as match commissioner and the medical officer will be Dr Abdulrahim Onimisi Ozi Salami of Nigeria, while the game will kick off at 5pm.
