  Edo 2020: Fans At Dagger Drawn In Women's Football Final By Admin Violence and controversy took centre stage on Monday after the final of the women football game between Team Edo and Team Lagos at the Sports Complex of The University of Benin at the ongoing National Sports Festival, Edo State. Team Edo, the hosts pipped Team Lagos 1-0 to emerge champions of the 20th National Sports Festival women's football event. [video width="1920" height="1080" mp4="https://bsnsports.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/VID-20210412-WA0074.mp4"][/video]   The problems flared after fans of both sides exchanged missiles, prompting police to move into position to prevent confrontation among fans and restore peace. The violence started after aggrieved Lagos fans threw missiles at the fourth official who displayed just an additional one minutes after the 90th minute. The aggrieved Team Lagos officials and fans claimed they should have been awarded more minutes as medical personnel of Team Edo spent about 10 minutes attending to their injured goalkeeper. Immediately after the final whistle, an argument ensued between players of the two teams with officials from both bench also involved in a heated argument. As some fans began to find their way onto the pitch with missiles coming from all directions, one of the armed men of the Nigeria Police force slapped a fan from Lagos who was adjudged to have been the mastermind behind the confrontation. This act by the security personnel created chaos leading to the exchange of punches from players, officials and fans. Some fans were seen wielding knives, while some wielded all sorts of weapons.
