Edo 2020: FCT Minister Non-challant Attitude Towards Sports Will Force Us To Compete For Another State - FCT Athletes

No fewer than 20 athletes in 5 different sports have vowed not to represent Team FCT in the oncoming 2020 National Sports Festival in Edo state.

This was made known when our reporter visited Old Parade Ground Sports Complex Area 10 on Wednesday to speak with coaches and athletes on their preparations towards the National Sports Festival coming up in March next year.

The athletes who made Team FCT proud during the last year's National Sports Festival when they won medals revealed they have been approached by other states who promised to pay huge amount in order to represent their states in next year's competition.

One of the athletes who preferred anonymity during an interview said: "We are in Abuja because this is where we are based and that is the only reason we are still training here.

"If by December the Minister of FCT does not host us and award us with deserved award, we will have no option than switch allegiance to a more serious state who is ready to take care of us."

"How can some states pay as much as N1 million for winning gold, while others pay N500,000 but the capital of the country and hosts, has not deemed it fit to reward us? He asked. This is sad and unfair. He lamented.
