Edo 2020: Sports Minister Tasks 11-man Covid-19 Committee Over Hosting of NSF In November

The minister of youth and development sports development, Sunday Dare, has tasked the 11-man Covid-19 committee to do everything possible in making sure that the 20th National Sports Festival holds before November, 2020, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

The sports minister said this during the Inauguration ceremony of the Members of the 20th National Sports Festival COVID-19 Committee in a virtual meeting held on Wednesday.

Dare also gave the eleven man COVID-19 committee 30-day ultimatum to summit her reports to hold a successful rescheduled Edo 2020 National Sports Festival(NSF) billed for Benin City later this year.

Dare, noted that the inauguration ceremony is in partial fulfilment of one of the decisions of the Extra-Ordinary National Council on Sports, which took place virtually on Monday, May 18, while urging the committee to map out a road plan that would ensure a successful hosting of the Festival before November this year.

“Ascertain the level of COVID-19 infrastructure put in place by the Edo State Government as well as requirements to manage any foreseeable crisis that may arise as a result of the organisation of the 20th National Sports Festival” he said.

“Interface with all relevant Agencies to determine the COVID-19 infrastructure that must be put in place in order to host the 20th National Sports Festival before November, 2020”.

“Propose the date for the National Sports Festival. In accordance with the decision of the National Council on Sports, you are expected to submit the report of the Committee within the next 30 days from the date of the Extra Ordinary National Council on Sports”

Dare, further tasked the committee to come up with a propose date to host the Festival and COVID-19 protocol that would ensure the safety of the athletes and officials ahead of the games.

“Prepare a code of operations (COVID-19 Protocol) that would guide the athletes, officials, spectators, LOC, MOC and other relevant stakeholders towards the successful organisation of the 20th National Sports Festival”.

“As you begin your assignment, I wish to assure you of the full weight of the sports loving people of Nigeria”

According to him “Though, I have no doubt in my mind that you will provide code of operation that would guide all stakeholders towards the delivery of a successful 20th National Sports Festival, I urge you to bring your experience to bear in the execution of this great national importance” he concluded.
