Edo Govt Raises Doubts Over Host of National Sports Festival As FG Yet To Give Financial Support

Chairman, Local Organising Committee, LOC, of the 20th National Sports Festival, Phillip Shuiabu, has revealed that the Federal Government has not given the hosting state the promised supporting funds, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Edo State government had said that they can only host the Sports Festival tagged 'Edo 2020' only when the Federal Government gives them financial support, adding the postponements, Covid-19 as well as the State Elections in 2020 caused Edo a lot of money and affected the hosting of the biennial event.
The Ministry of Sports in its response assured the state government that Federal Government will give them financial support to ease the the burden on the state.
With ten days to the commencement of the biennial national competition, there is doubt on whether the Games can still hold as the state is yet to receive a dime.
Though, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Phillip Shuaibu believed that the money they're expecting will still come.
"We believe in our President and believe in our minister that this fund will definitely come. And that's why the governor in his wisdom decided that preparations should be activated and all the process of getting the facilities ready for the Games have started."
The 20th National Sports Festival is billed to start on April 2 and ends 16 with 8,000 athletes expected to participate.
