In a chat with sports journalists at the end of the game, Technical Director of the team, Coach Godwin Izilein, said he was happy that the girls gave good account of themselves, adding that the match was part of the team’s preparation for the forthcoming Women League in the country billed to commence very soon.
“I’m happy that we have qualified for the finals of this years’ Edo FA Antio Cup competition. This game you have just watched now is part of our training and build up towards the forthcoming women’s League which will commence within the next few weeks. For us as managers of the team, we believed we can get better as we move ahead. We cannot say that we have arrived,we need to train our girls very well so that they would be able to stand the test of time when it matters most.”
“Again you can see the way the coaches are shouting on them, I have told them not to use FA Cup competition to rate themselves, because by the time the league commences, we would know whether we have it or not. We also want to commend the state government for their supports, we won’t disappoint them, and we are totally committed to making sure we rewrite the history of Edo Queens, and win all the available laurels that are in female football in Nigeria. As the winners of the 2018 edition, we are going to Ekpoma to defend the prestigious trophy as well as retain it and prove to our opponents that Edo Queens are really champions in the state.”
“We have also lined up a number of grade A friendlies to keep our girls in the right frame of mind for the uphill task awaiting us, by the time we are done with all these friendlies, we would access ourselves and know whether we have what it takes to confront other teams from other states in the Women League”.
