Eguavoen scouts Lookman for Nigeria; plans to watch Eze and Olise

Nigeria interim manager and technical director Augustine Eguavoen was among the spectators at the King Power Stadium on Thursday night as Leicester City beat Danish Cup winners Randers in the first leg of the European Conference League tie, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Eguavoen and his assistant Emmanuel Amuneke were at the King Power to watch the newest addition to the Super Eagles ranks, Ademola Lookman, who turned up in style for the Foxes to help them dispose of their Danish opponents by four goals to one. Lookman switched nationalities to Nigeria earlier in the month and made a statement by his social media that he was excited to finally get the opportunity to be representing Nigeria on the international stage. Amaju Pinnick, the president of the Nigerian Football Federation visited Lookman and other Leicester Nigerian stars last week. Now, Eguavoen, the man who will be managing him, has gone to see his talents for himself and will be happy with what he saw. The Red Bull Leipzig forward on loan at Leicester City provided two assists in the 4-1 drubbing of Randers. He set up the first and the last goals scored by Super Eagles midfield maestro Wilfred Ndidi and Foxes youngster Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Eguavoen, who watched the match from the executive box, met with Lookman, Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho after the game. The Leicester City Nigerians were not the only Nigerians on display in the European Conference League fixture. Randers forward Stephen Odey, who was part of the traveling squad but not part of the team that played the fixture, met with the caretaker boss after the match as well. Reports claim that Eguavoen is looking to incorporate Odey into the Nigerian squad as a false nine. Tosin Kehinde, another Nigerian on display for Randers, could not meet with the interim manager as he had to fly back to Denmark with his team immediately after the game. The Manchester United academy product provided the assist for his teammate to equalise after Lookman had assisted Ndidi's opening goal for Leicester City. His efforts were not enough however as the foxes ran rampant in the tie. Eguavoen shared pictures with Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Lookman on Instagram and captioned it, “Great game yesterday and it was great to see Kelechi and Ademola in good shape! “Great to see our boys play yesterday at Leicester. Congratulations to Wilfred on his goal and 200th appearance for the club.” Eguavoen and his assistant Emmanuel Amuneke will be at Selhurst Park to watch prospects Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise for Crystal Palace when they host Chelsea in a Premier League game on Saturday. They are currently planning to meet with both youngsters in a bid to convince them to switch their nationality from England and France to Nigeria. Olise was born in England to a Nigerian father and a French-Algerian mother, making him eligible to represent any of the four countries, while Eze was born in England to Nigerian parents. Eze has already represented England at the under-21 level while Olise has yet to make his international debut for any of the four countries which he is eligible to represent. “We are hopeful that Eze and Olise will be well convinced by the coaches of what plans they have for them,” a source says. The trainers also plan to meet with other Nigerians playing in England such as Southampton's Nathan Tella, Reading's Ovie Ejaria, and Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo before returning to Nigeria to decide on the squad list for next month's matchup against Ghana.
