Egypt 2019: Eagles Must Work Collectively To Beat Algeria - Omokaro

By Tayo Ogunseye

Former Super Eagles defender Bright "10-10" Omokaro has called on Coach Gernot Rohr to ensure every member of the team play collectively as a team ahead of Sunday's semi-final clash against Algeria at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

The Maroc 1988 AFCON star who incidentally featured for Nigeria against Algeria at the same stage which Nigeria won 9-8 on penalty after score stood at 1-1 at regulation time, advised the Super Eagles to play for one another by covering the lapses of their teammates who could be out of position on the pitch.

"Football is a collective thing" Omokaro declared, "You have the midfield, the defense and the forward, and if we are collectively engaged, the Super Eagles should be able to beat any team."

"The players must play collectively and cover for each other", he insisted "during our time when I lose the ball, no one will say Oh, it's Omokaro's department and blame him rather, one of my teammates will be there to cover for me and recover the ball. That's what we call diagonal coverage in the defense. "

Omokaro further revealed exclusively to sportsville.ng that the determination by the team to win must be collective.

Nigeria will engage Algeria in the second Semi-final match at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt on Sunday July 14 by 8pm Nigerian time.

The encounter will be the 20th between both sides with the Super Eagles enjoying a superior head-to-head record of nine wins, seven defeats and three draws over the Desert Foxes in their last 19 encounter dating as far back as January 10, 1973.
