The National Secretariat of Sports Writers' Association of Nigeria, SWAN; an affiliate of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has felicitated with Muslims and Nigerians on the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.
The SWAN President, Comrade Ahmed Aigbona enjoined Muslims and Nigerians in general to build on the firm foundation of peace and unity which has been established during the just concluded month of Ramadan.
This was contained in a message jointly signed by the President and the Secretary General of the Association, Comrade Mike Oboh. The duo on behalf of the Association congratulated Nigerians of the Islamic faith, who successfully completed the month-long Ramadan fast.
Aigbona prayed that may God Almighty accept the supplications of the faithful during the Ramadan and bestow unparalleled blessings on the country.
The Ramadan fast, he said, has afforded us the opportunity to reconnect with our creator and extend the hand of fellowship to our fellow men. "However, as we celebrate, we should not forget the lessons learnt; the spirit of alms-giving, and love for fellow men,” he said.
In the statement, SWAN President urged Nigerians to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations to rededicate themselves to values and virtues to promote peace and unity in the country.
He further explained that the celebrations offered Muslims the opportunity to reflect on Allah’s love and compassion for mankind, adding that they should extend the same attitude to one another.
Comrade Aigbona advised Muslims to sustain the lessons of sacrifice, discipline and love learnt during the period of Ramadan beyond the month.
He called on Nigerians not to allow religion to divide the country but to stand up for the promotion and dignity of humanity as well as mutual respect for one another’s faith.
He urged all adherents of Islam to continue to abide by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) after the holy month to further receive more reward from the Almighty Allah.
“We must also pray fervently to halt the spread of COVID-19, and for the progress of our dear country," Aigbona concluded.
