EKEJI HEADS IMO SPORTS COMMISSION REVIEW COMMITTEE

Dr Patrick Ekeji, a former Nigeria international and retired Director General of defunct National Sports Commission will head a seven man committee that will review the Imo State Sports Commission.

The committee which was inaugurated Monday by the Secretary to the Imo State Government also has Mrs Chizotan Aretola as Secretary.

Prof Ken Anugweje, Dr Godfrey Ogu, Mr Chuks Abara as well as a representative each from the Ministry of Justice and Office of the Secretary to the Government of Imo State.

Chief Cosmas Iwu, Secretary to the Government of Imo State, while inaugurating the committee in his office on Monday, handed the Ekeji Committee the task of reviewing the laws setting up the sports commission to bring it in line with international best practices as well as looking into ways to improve Sports development in the state.

Responding, Dr Patrick Ekeji who is also a professional football coach having coached the Green Eagles in 1985, promised that his committee will work in line with the government to realize government's mandate which will make Imo state a pride of place in the sporting industry, not only in the country, but the continent and globe in general.

The committee immediately swung into action with visits to the various jobs done by the commission since its inception last year.

It would be recalled that the Imo State Sports Commission was set up by the former administration led by Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha with Chief Fan Ndubuoke as Chairman.
