Sylvester Emmanuel and Oyinlomo Quadre continued their fine form, powering their way to the second round of the Vemp Tennis Open in Abuja on Tuesday.

This comes after both players claimed the men’s and women’s singles titles of the Rainoil Tennis Open on Sunday.

Emmanuel who was playing against Chima Michael for the second time in one week, won 6-1, 2-1 (rtd).

Michael retired just like he did in their first game at the Rainoil Open. With the win, Emmanuel will play Musa Bala for a place in the quarter-final.

Joseph Imeh defeated Joseph Iyorovbe 6-2, 6-2 to set up a second round clash against Ikechukwu Iloputa, who defeated Sylvanus Ajang 6-4, 7-6(5) in the first round.

Emmanuel Idoko also booked a place in the second round, coming back from a set down to defeat Emmanuel Sunday 1-6, 7-5, 7-5, while Gabriel Friday defeated Godgift Timibra 6-2, 6-4.

In the women’s single, Nigeria No. 1, Quadre continued are good run this year, defeating Folashade Ogunshola 6-0, 6-0 to qualify for the second round.

The 16-year-old is gunning for a fourth national title in 2019, after winning the CBN, Dala and Rainoil Opens.

She will play Toyin Asogba for a place in the quarter-final.

Aanu Aiyegbusi, ranked No. 2 in Nigeria, also got a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Blessing Danjuma. Aiyegbusi and Bunmi Are will slug it out in the second round.

Defending champion, Blessing Samuel also defeated Omotayo Osewa 6-1, 6-1, to set up a second round clash against Osariemen Airhunwhunde.
