EPL - Liverpool 0-1 Fulham: Shambolic Reds sink to new low with sixth successive home defeat

EPL
Mario Lemina scored the only goal of the game as an improving Fulham boosted their survival hopes with a stunning 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening.  In what is becoming a common trend at home, Jurgen Klopp's men failed to sparkle at their grounds once again, with the defeat heavily denting their top-four hopes. Perhaps with an eye on midweek Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig, Klopp made seven changes to his side, with Neco Williams, Nathaniel Phillips, and Rhys Williams all starting in defence. Xherdan Shaqiri and Diogo Jota start alongside Mohamed Salah in attack at Anfield, with the likes of Fabinho, Thiago, Mane, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Alexander-Arnold starting on the bench. The hosts controlled the opening half for long spells, but could not make their possession count as the visitors sat back and caught them on counter-attacks. Fulham grew into the match and deservedly took the lead on the stroke of half-time as Lemina disposed Mohamed Salah on the edge of the box, before firing low into the bottom corner past Alisson Becker. This was the first time the Reds had fallen behind in six consecutive Premier League games at Anfield, further underlining their recent poor run. The hosts upped the tempo in the second period and created more chances but could not break down a well-organized Fulham. They came closest in the 70th minute as Naby Keita looped a cross to the back post and Mane rose highest to send a header towards the far post, but it cannoned off to the disappointment of the Reds. Despite sustained pressure from the hosts, Fulham held on for their second win in five matches, while Liverpool remain seventh on the standings.
