Ex-3SC Players, Officials Appeal To Governor To Fulfill Promises 22 Years After

Former players and officials of Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan, who won the Nigerian League and West African Football Union (WAFU) trophy in 1998 have asked for the rewards promised them shortly after the achievement 22 years ago, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

In a letter addressed to the Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the chairman of Shooting Stars in 1998, Chief Bode Oyewole appealed to the governor to fulfil the promise made by the then governor of the state. In the letter, chief Oyewole recalled that the then governor in 1998, Oyakhire promised the players of the club a piece of land and one million naira each while the officials were also promised to receive a plot of land two million naira each.

Meanwhile, the then chairman of the club was promised a plot of land and three million naira.

The letter added that the plot of land was truly allocated to the members of the team in fulfilment of the promise made by the Oyakhire-led administration but his successor, former Oyo state governor, Lam Adesina revoked the land and withdrew it from the players and officials shortly after taken over power in the state.

In an interview with BCOS Sports, chief Oyewole confirned that the letter was truly written by the affected persons to demand for their reward.

"If you knew the team in 1998 it was the best team in Nigeria. We won the Nigerian league and also went to Lome in Togo to also win the West African Football Union Cup which was the only trophy that Nigeria won at the club level, regional level and continental level in that year." Oyewole said.

"And ever since then, nothing had happened, several appealed were made by the players to Lam Adesina but nothing came out of it. And we have been writing letters to different administrations since the time we were promised to help us do something about it. From former governor, senator Rasheed Ladoja to Gov Akala but non was acknowledged.

"Governor Ajumobi, in his eight years, we wrote about ten letters to him. I have the copies of all these letters.

Chief Oyewole then made a personal plea to governor Seyi Makinde to fulfil the plege made to the players because they need thw money and land.

The former 3SC chairman added that the players are also human who used their God-given talents to put the state in a global map. Giving them what was promised will encourage those coming up looking up to do more for the state.

"We have a governor who have listening ears and it is only fair to let him know. And we are very confident that if he reads the letter written to him, being a compassionate leader and one who have hearts for justice for anyone, he would do the needful."

An aide to one of the commissioner of the state, who spoke with BCOS Sports explained that the commissioner inherited various letter from his predecessor.

The aide however, assured that the demand of the ex-3SC players and officials will be addressed.
