Ex-Olympian Launches Charity Organisation to assist Orphans in Kwara

The Sun of hope will shine on ten (10) selected orphans within Kwara state who have enrolled in a Charity project setup by Ex-Silver medalist at Sydney 2000 and Founder of Ruth Ogbeifo Balofin Community Project (ROBCOP), Ruth Ogbeifo Balofin to assist residents in Kwara State, by establishing a charity project, Charity Mind of Giving (CMOG) fashion centre to support stranded orphans.

CMOG, will serve as a support system and place where orphans can learn the fashion craft. The center has recruited experts that will play a key role in bettering the community and surrounding areas.

According to Ruth Ogbeifo, she hopes targeted individuals between age 10 - 16 will be able to devise plans and make use of the resources that are available to them.

"We are starting with ten pupils (both male & female) within Kwara state, irrespective of tribe, ethnicity or religion. They will all be trained by experts and eventually empowered to have a career future in fashion at the centre which was opened in June 2020. There are plans to increase the targeted individuals subsequently". Ruth explained

Despite hailing from Delta, the ex-olympian have always been philanthropic and have shown support for various communities in Kwara state where she was raised to become a renowned weightlifter, representing Kwara state and Nigeria in both National and International events.

She reaffirmed her commitments towards extending her gesture towards other individuals in the foreseable future with plans to assist in other areas.

A couple of months back, the first African woman to win a weightlifting medal at the Olympic games alongside former athlete, Dr. Mrs Chioma Ajunwa (first and only individual Olympic gold medalist for Nigeria in Long Jump), Dr Steve Olarinoye (Board member, weightlifting federation) together with major Sport stakeholders, met the Kwara state government to discuss and submit her proposal to facilitate the building of a national weightlifting centre in Kwara as part of efforts to aid the development of weightlifting in the country.
