Newly acquired Nigeria striker Josh Maja was the star of the show as Stoke City defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 in the 4th round of the Emirate FA Cup, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
The former Sunderland attacker joined the Potters on Monday on loan from the French Ligue one club Girondin Bordeaux.
He has few days of training with the team but lived up to the billings in the FA Cup game.
"I am just pleased to get a positive result and get off the mark with my first goal for the club," the 23-year-old said following the game.
"It is huge for my confidence because you always want to settle straight away when you move to a new club, so to get the goal on my first appearance is a real positive for me.
"I said when I signed that when I am given consistent opportunities then I will score goals - I truly believe that.
"I have proven that in the past too and now I want to show that here, so scoring on game one for me, is a perfect start," he added.
Since making his debut for Super Eagles in an international friendly against Ukraine, Maja is yet to be invited back into the national team.
