FC Ifeanyi Record 6th Clean sheet, Defeat Gombe United
By Admin
FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Wednesday recorded a 6th clean sheet of the season with a win against Gombe United on match day seven of the abridged league. The technical crew of the Anambra Warriors made three changes to the side that lost on Sunday to Abia Warriors with the trio of Nnaji Christian, Samson Junior and Ikenna Cooper returning to the starting eleven for Nonso Nzediegwu, Ebetomame Oghenetega and Onuoha Chukwujekwu who dropped to the bench.
The Warriors came into the game probing and asking questions of the visitors with plethora of chances begging for conversion. First was in the 6th minute from an Alaekwe's assist for the tallest player on the pitch Ezeh Chibuike who unleashed a belter but was unlucky as his effort went wide. Samson Junior forced a save from the Desert Scorpions' goaltender Emmanuel Daniel in the 20th minute after a foul on Ezeh Chibuike close to the box. Chijioke Alaekwe was the culprit as he missed a glorious opportunity from a vintage position in the 32nd minute from a well worked counter attacking move. Ugwuka Emmanuel somehow failed to hit the target from about 8 yards after controlling beautifully a Chinonso Udeh's through ball in the 42nd minute. Ugwuka was found wanting again in added time as he skyrocketed his effort much closer to the goal mouth after nutmegging Ibrahim Mohammed in defence as the half rolled over.
The second half was a replica of the first save for half chances as the Desert Scorpions' goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel kept the scoreline even and denied Chibuike Ezeh in the 71st minute. FC Ifeanyi Ubah wouldn't wait much longer as their substitutions paid off notably in the 73rd minute with Chinonso Udeh's corner kick met by Onuoha Uche who headed on target with Cooper Ikenna having a final and decisive touch for the goal. In added time Nonso Nzediegwu sealed the win after goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel parried Onuoha Uche's powerful strike with the former well placed to dispatch for the winner.
Next up for the Anambra Warriors is a trip to Okigwe to face bitter rivals Heartland in an anticipated explosive Oriental Derby clash.
