FCT Emerge The Best Football Team In Nigeria As Unity Boys Claim Gold In NSF By Niyi Busari The Federal Capital Territory, FCT football team on Friday defeated Bayelsa 1-0 in the football final of the 2018 national sports festival decided at the training pitch of the national stadium, Abuja. "I am happy and satisfied for being the best team in the competition, I still maintain that some of the best players in the country reside in Abuja, Abuja residents should expect more odious day in football from the nation's capital. " On their road to final, FCT defeated Katsina state 3-0, drew 2-2 with Nasarawa in their two group B games. Having garnered four points in the group stage, FCT came second while Nasarawa topped the group. FCT moved to semi final to face Lagos. On Wednesday, three quick first half goals was enough for the Unity boys to overcome the Lagosians in a tension soaked semi final encounter at the training pitch national stadium Abuja. Lagos could only manage to score a consolation goal to end the semi final 3-1. Earlier on Friday, the losers final was played between Lagos and Nasarawa state. Nasarawa came from 2-0 down to drag the third place match to penalties. Nasarawa goalkeper, Shuaibu Iliya saved two penalties to put his side ahead and claimed the bronze medal. The match third place game ended 4-2.
