FCT League: Club Chairman confident of top spot finish for Thrift Echoes FC By Victor Okoye Abuja, Oct. 24, 2018 (NAN) Emeka Odionye, the Chairman of Thrift Echoes Football Club, on Wednesday expressed confidence in the ability of his team to finish top of their group in the ongoing 2018 FCT League. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the league which got underway on Oct. 10 at the Area 3 Astro turf football pitch comprises of 25 clubs spread across five groups and it’s scheduled to end in Nov. Amateur league side Thrift Echoes FC had on Tuesday brightened their chances of finishing top of the group after recording a win in their third group game at the ongoing 2018 FCT League. They defeated Winners FC 3-2 to make it two wins from three games after defeating Winco Foam FC 4-2 in their first group game on Oct. 15 and playing out a goalless draw with Premier Academy on Oct. 18. Odionye told NAN in an interview on Wednesday that he was hopeful that his team would finish on top of the group with two games to spare. “I am very excited about my team’s progress so far. I couldn’t make it for their second game but like I said earlier, we are the underdogs of the tournament. “Nobody knows us and that is an added advantage as it takes all the pressure away from the team and I believe we are capable of winning the league. “I am very excited. We have won two games now and drawn one. We have seven points from three games played. “I feel that is already a very huge achievement for us knowing that we are playing the tournament for the first time. “Kudos to our opponents who we have played so far. They were very good teams and I can tell you that it’s been really a very competitive league, “he said. Thrift Echoes FC currently top Group B table with seven points, albeit with a superior goal difference against second placed Premier Academy who are also on seven points but have played one game more. Fire Service FC are third on four points with a game in hand, while Winco Foam and Winners FC occupy the last two positions on the log. Two teams from each group will qualify for the Super League which will be made up of the two best clubs from the five groups and the best two losers, while other teams will be relegated to the Lower League. The Super League will consist of four groups of three teams each for the finals. The winner of the 2018 FCT League will represent the FCT in the Division 4 playoff next year. (NAN)
