FCT Minister Urged To Facilitate Resumption of Contact Sports By Niyi Busari The Chairman of Nigeria Football Coaches Association, FCT Chapter, Godwin Bamigboye, has called on the FCT Minister, Alhaji Muhammad Bello to facilitate the resumption of contact sports in the Federal Capital Territory through collaboration with his colleague, Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development and approval of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19. He made this appeal while also commending the FCT Minister on his directive for the reopening of Schools in the Territory. He told the Minister that with the reopening of Schools, contact sports in the various schools is inevitable. The reopening of contact sports is long overdue because the effects of non activity of sports as a result of the inevitable global lockdown has led to unquantifiable social and economic consequences that are becoming visible. Therefore there is urgent need to curb the trauma the young population of Nigeria have passed through during the lockdown and post lockdown. He advised that the FCT Minister should approve a Special Post COVID-19 Intervention Fund for the FCT Sports Department and particularly the FCT Football Association as a proactive towards engaging sectors that have the capacity to mitigate the negative consequences on the large youth population in Nigeria. The FCT Football Coaches Association Chairman added that in their position as managers of players, they are working with the FCT Football Association to engage the youths in FCT through the Abuja City Cup Football competition which is also meant to reach out to the teeming population of football fans who fall into the young population.
