FCT Police Inter-Area Command Football Tournament: Karu Beat Metro To Emerge Champions By Niyi Busari Karu Police Area Command football team defeated Metro Police Area Command 2-0 in the final of the FCT Police Inter-Area Command Football Tournament held at the Area 3 field. The final played on Friday saw Daniel Ijaga put Karu ahead in the first half before Abdul Lateef scored an own goal against his own team to make it a 2-0 win for the champions. The purpose of this tournament according to the organisers is to cement relationship between the ranks in the police. ASP Yahaya Gambo while addressing the media after the match added the essence of the tournament is to bring out the talents in police. "I am happy that we are able to identify talents who can represent police in the next Police Game. We pick at least three players from each of the Command in the Inter-Area Command football competition. From Abaji Area Command, Karu Area Command, Metro all have players that will represent the FCT Police in the football event. "Next week we are going for zonal screening in Kaduna where all the players we have identified will be in action." Elated ACP Lekan Odumosu, the Area Commander of the champions, of the competition said, "I am very happy, the win is due to hard work. We have been preparing for this tournament ahead of the other Area Commands and you can see the result of the preparations. "We will continue to defend the title. In fact we have plans to keep on to the cup for the next ten years and may be by that time I will be the Inspector General of Police." On the road to final, Karu Area Command defeated Abaji Area Command 3-1 on Monday before a 1-0 slim win over Gwarimpa Area Command on Wednesday. The final saw the champions handed a 2-0 defeat to Metro Police Area Command.
