FCT Track Invitational Meet: GSS Dutse Emerge Champions With 5 Gold Medals

Government Day Secondary School, GSS, Dutse emerged overall champions of the just concluded maiden FCT Secondary Schools Track Invitational Meet at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

The Chairman of the FCT Athletic Association Board, Hon.Kehinde Odeneye promised to focus on the grassroots sports development to fish out budding talents within the Capital Territory.

Hon. Odeneye, who stated this at the closing of the first FCT School Invitational Track Meet at the MKO Abiola Stadium, said the country needs to go back to the grassroots to regain its lost glory in sports.

The former lawmaker averred that the board was committed to discovering young and fresh talents for the FCT and the country in generally pointing out that there was dearth of new faces in our sports.

The FCT Athletic boss said the invitational track meet was an experiment that surpassed the expectations of the board, promising that the next edition would be bigger and better, even as he appealed to corporate sponsors to team up with the Association to develop athletic in the capital Territory.

Vice Chairman of the board and chair person of the Meet, Rosa Colins remains upbeat that the 2020 edition would be better while promising to give discovered athletes the opportunity to flourish.

The former national Triple Jump record holder pointed out that one of the objectives of the board would be to discover and expose young talents to better facilities abroad through securing scholarships for them.

She said her dream remains to see young and budding talents enjoy the same level of opportunity some of them enjoyed while running for the country in the 80s and early 90s.

At the end of the meet Government Day Secondary School, Dutse came overall first with five gold, Government secondary school,Karu was second with two gold while Government science secondary school,Pyakasa was third with two gold also.

Chukwuma Marvellous came first in the boys 100m, Omomoh Cynthia was first in the girls 100m , Abdul Kareem Muhammed was first in 200m boys with Laha Mary winning the girls event.
