FIFA Forward Project Finances Construction of Somali FA Headquarters, Stadium Mogadishu Hotel By Our Editor Somali Football Federation has announced that the construction of its headquarters and Stadium Mogadishu Hotel being financed under FIFA Forward Project will begin next week. During its meeting on 28th of September 2020, the SFF executive committee discussed a number of development programs and announced that the construction will commence in the week beginning on October 5. The executive committee thanked the world football’s governing body FIFA for awarding Somalia with such a huge project that will cover the construction of Somali Football Federation’s headquarters and Stadium Mogadishu Hotel which will accommodate the Ocean Stars. “Since its foundation, the SFF has always been based in a rented headquarters, but that is now coming to an end. Thanks to FIFA for financing this huge project and thanks to Somali government for donating the portion of land where the headquarters and the hotel will be constructed,” Somali Football Federation president, Abdiqani Said Arab, said. “Somali government has given us the land and we then asked FIFA for financial assistance and FIFA has approved our request, so the construction of the two sites [Stadium Mogadishu hotel and the SFF headquarters] will be financed under the FIFA Forward Project,” the president added. The executive committee meeting has also set a date for the start of the 2020 edition of Somali Inter-State football tournament which will kick off on 15 December. The competition will take place at the Stadium Mogadishu, the home of Ocean Stars. The 2020-2021 football season of Somalia has also been confirmed to start early December, while Somalia named the two clubs that will represent the country in the upcoming CAF CC and CL competitions. Horseed Sports Club has been identified as Somalia’s representative in CAF CC, while current champions, Mogadishu City Club, will play in the CAF CL. This will be the second year running that Somalia is taking part in CAF’s Club level competitions after more than three decades of absence due to lawlessness. - AIPS Media
