FIFA Relief Fund: Malawi FA To Dole Out Over $400,000 To support Clubs, Players, Others

..To Increase Member Associations Subvention By 50%

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has created a special relief fund of over US$400,000 to bail out players and officials amid the coronavirus crisis.

The aim is to help clubs, players and officials who rely on football as a source of income.

Football activities in Malawi and other countries of the World have been suspended in wake of the rapid widespread of the coronavirus.

FAM executive committee took the decision during a video-conference emergency meeting held on Monday 27 April 2020 to review a task force report on the impact of coronavirus on Malawi football and recommended mitigation measures.

Beneficiaries of the special fund are Super League club players and team officials, Women’s Football Regional League Teams and Elite Referees.

The above-mentioned beneficiaries will get monthly stipends not less than minimum wage prescribed by Malawi Government.

Malawi Football Association will also bail out its Member Associations by increasing the yearly subventions to Member Associations that receive direct funding from the federation by 50%.

FAM intends to use FIFA Special Projects funding for 2020 amounting to US$400,000 for the relief fund.
