FIFA to sponsor 20 African Referees

In order to improve African referees in interpretation of the game and the use of hi-tech equipment in refereeing world soccer governing body ( FIFA) has decided to sponsor 20 top African referees and turn them to professionals, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

Africa has been suffering from bad officiating both in the inter club competitions and at the international level which has affected the development of the game in the continent.

FIFA through its president Gianni Infantino on Saturday confirmed the body decisions and further said the referees will be paid directly by FIFA.

The measure is taken to free the match officials from manipulations by the politicians who always want to influence the outcome of the fame in their favour.

The criteria that will be used in picking the referees is yet to be determined.
