FIFA U17 World Cup: We will shock Nigeria - Perkins

By Sampson Adedeji

After poor results in their first two game, securing one point in 2 matches against Ecuador and Hungary, Australia defender Courtney Perkins believe they have garnered enough confidence to shock Nigeria's Golden Eaglets in their last group tie, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

Group leader Nigeria will take on bottom placed Australia on Friday 9:00 pm (Nigeria time) in the final group game of the ongoing FIFA U17 World Cup to continue their 100 percent run having won their first two group matches.

Nigeria have already ensured their progression to the next round having outscored Hungary 3-2, defeated Ecuador 4-2 to secure maximum 6 points in their first two group matches.

The African nation have won the FIFA U-17 World Cup on five previous occasions and are one of the tournament heavyweights in Brazil.

But Courtney-Perkins believes they will be nervous of taking on the Joeys.

“It would be scary for any other team to look at that performance [against Hungary] and think ‘wow we’re versing Australia next’,” the Brisbane Roar defender said.

It was good for us and Australian football to put on the performance we did.

“It’s been mixed emotions after [the first two] games, we’ve been pretty unlucky results wise but definitely after (the Hungary) performance we should definitely be excited for the Nigeria game," he said.
