First Lady Donates Jerseys to Bayelsa United Ahead CAF Confederation Cup Opener

Bayelsa first lady Mrs, Gloria Diri has charged players and officials of Bayelsa United to see the CAF Confederation Cup tie against AS Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea as an opportunity to showcase the State to the world.
Mrs. Diri gave the charge when she donated pair of jerseys from her foundation to Bayelsa United ahead of this weekend’s CAF Confederation Cup preliminary match in Conakry.
While congratulating players of Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens for emerging winners of the Aiteo Cup for the first time, she said the essence of the gesture was to identify with the team over their outstanding performance in Benin State, Edo State.
She praised the players and the coaches for the success and urged them to embark on the CAF Confederation Cup campaign with undiminished commitment, expressing the readiness of her foundation to partner the club achieve set objectives.
Mrs Diri who promised the team maximum support, however tasked the boys to work tirelessly to win both home and away fixtures, adding that the victory has made Bayelsa among the leading sports states in the country.
In a remark, commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Mr Daniel Igali attributed the brilliant display of Bayelsa State in sports to passion and drive by the athletes as well as the governor's love for sports, pointing out that the sports sector has never had it so good since the creation of the state.
He thanked the first lady for her support and assured Bayelsans that the team would go beyond the preliminary round of the competition.
Earlier, chairman of Bayelsa United Mr Ebiki Timitimi appreciated the First Lady and the Gloria Diri foundation for the show to the Prosperity Boys, stating that the move was a morale booster to the club.
Mr Timitimi thanked the Bayelsa government for the continued support to the team.
