Flamingos To Engage In Full Training in Abuja Today

National U-17 women’s football team, Flamingos Monday in Abuja started light training ahead of the first leg away match against Guinea on February 28 just as Nigeria’s next opponents in the second round will be West African rivals, Ghana.

Although, bulk of the invited players have not arrived the camp located at Area 11 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the stand-in Head Coach, Owolo Abiodun and female Assistant Coach, Queendolyn Akpan took the few who arrived the camp early, mainly from Rivers Angels FC of Port Harcourt for a light exercise on Monday morning.

Other members of the technical crew including team doctor, physiotherapist and Team administrator are already on ground working to ensure that Nigeria will be ready for Guinea clash this month end in Conakry.
It was also gather that more players will join the camp today ahead of the team’s first full training this evening at the FIFA Goal Project pitch at Package B, National Stadium, Abuja.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director, Coach Bitrus Bewarang confirmed that the federation has set machinery in motion to ensure that Flamingos fly higher this time around to pick one of the three tickets to represent Africa in the summer FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

According to the veteran senior national team, Super Eagles coach,”the NFF is doing its best to prepare the U-17 team well for the qualifying matches and I believe they will do better this time around”.
Meanwhile, should Nigeria dump Guinea over two legs, their next opponents are the West African powerhouse , Ghana in the second round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers.

A closer look at the CAF full match schedule showed that Nigeria will face the winner of the first round fixtures between Ghana and Liberia in the month of May.
The winner of the two legs will pick one of the three African tickets for India 2020 just as Nigeria will not meet neither South Africa nor Cameroon which eliminated the Flamingos from the 2018 edition in Uruguay.
