Flying Eagles rally to hold Amajita in Afcon U20 second group game
By Abidoye Babatunde
Nigeria's U-20 national side, the Flying Eagles on Tuesday were held to a scoreless draw by Amajita of South Africa in their second Group A match of the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Niamey.
Nigeria began their campaign with a 2-0 win over Burundi, while Amajita drew 1-1 with host in their Group A opener over the weekend.
Amajita struggled to get the ball off Nigeria early on, but they did manage to carve out a chance, which Siphesihle Mkhize failed to capatilise on.
The Flying Eagles had the most of the possessions and clear cut scoring chances
in the match.
However, the second half did not pan out any different from the first as both nations were
unable to mount any serious attempts at goal.
The Nigerians took control for the rest of the second half in search of a winning goal that would secure their spot in the knockout round.
Nigeria will now shift focus to Friday's final Group A encounter with host nation Niger to secure their chance for World Cup ticket billed to hold in Poland.
The Flying Eagles are still on top of the log with four points from two games
