Flying Eagles still work in progress – Aigbogun By Admin Flying Eagles coach Paul Aigbogun admitted that there is a lot of work to be done on his team before the Niger 2019 U-20 African Cup of Nations. Nigeria qualified for the February 24 to March 10, 2019 tournament on Saturday after mauling Mauritania 5-0 at the Agege Stadium, Lagos. They qualified 6-1 on aggregate. Aigbogun, who spoke with journalists after the match, said his team would not be carried away by the win, adding that he would work to get the team in shape before the competition. “The win was a good one and it is good for the confidence of the players. The first phase of the competition is gone and we can now begin work on the final phase,” he said. “We had a first target of qualifying for the competition and since we have done that successfully, the next focus is to work on the areas of weaknesses we have observed in the team. We cannot afford to be carried away with what we played. “Although the Mauritanians gave a good fight, we got the needed goals and qualification. But that doesn’t mean that the team is perfect. We will continue working harder before the competition starts next year to get the perfect blend that will give us glory. “The target now is to do well in Niger and get qualification for the World Cup. To do that, we have to work harder and I commend the players for making it this far – without them, the qualification would not have been possible. “They heeded our instructions and got the tactics right especially with the water-logged pitch. They were also motivated to win this game.”
