FOMWAN Babes emerges Minna Emirate Cup champions

FOMWAN Babes Football Club of Minna has emerged as the Champions of the 2019 Minna Emirate's Cup football competition.

FOMWAN Fc defeated Bridge Boys FC of Barikin Sale by 4-3 through Penalties, after a goalless draw at regulation time, in the finials decided at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna, Sunday.

Both teams played with caution from blast of the whistle to the end of the 90 minutes duration, exhibiting beautiful football artistry to the admiration of fans and supporters of both teams, as well as football enthusiasts who watched the highly tension soacked encounter in Minna.

In his remarks during the finals, the Chairman of Niger State Football Association (NSFA) and Executive Member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh commended the organizers of the championship, saying it is in line with the NFF drive for grassroots football development.

He said the state FA encouraged all the 25 local football councils in the state to initiate programme that will move the round leather game forward in their various localities and that the state FA under his leadership would always support them.

Comrade Yusuf Fresh who is the Wakilin Wasannin Minna was the donor and sponsor of the Minna Emirate's Cup, and called on other local football councils to emulate the Chanchaga local football council by organising similar grassroots football championship.

Similarly, the Chairman of Chanchaga local football council, Hon. Haruna Jibrin Soja appreciated the Emir of Minna, Dr. Umar Faruq Bahago for accepting that the championship be named after him, and also the Wakilin Wasannin Minna for shouldering the responsibility of sponsoring the championship.

The Minna Emirate's Cup football competition was organized by Chanchaga local football council and sponsored by Wakilin Wasannin Minna, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh. 38 teams in Minna and its environs participated in the championship.

Earlier, Niger Golden Boys Fc defeated Alheri Babes Fc of Minna to emerged the Third place winners.

Highlights of the event was presentation of medals, trophies and other prizes to the winners and other players who distinguished themselves. Peter Bamidele of Bridge Boys Fc was voted the Best Goalkeeper, Collins Cletus of Golden Fresh Blood scored five goals to emerged the highest goal scorer, while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) prize went to Aliyu Mohammed of FOMWAN Fc.
