Football Forum honours Aare Afe Babalola

Arrangements have been concluded by the Western Nigeria Football Forum to honour Aare Afe Babalola (SAN) with an award of Icon of Excellence in Human Capacity Development at a date to be fixed soon.
The award to the legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti is as a result of his immense contributions not only to human development and well-being, but his support for sporting activities within the South West States and the Nation at large.
The Executive Secretary,Western Nigeria Football Forum, Otunba Akin Akinbobola in a press statement he signed and made available to the media described the highly revered PRO Chancellor, University of Lagos as an outstanding man of integrity who is genuinely passionate about developing human beings. He has built a University that has won numerous national and international awards within a short period of its existence. The statement noted that Aare is a man with a midas touch, the desire of senior football stakeholders to celebrate him and draw his attention to sports development in the Southwest and Nigeria generally.
Akinbobola further informed that with the award of Excellence on the elder statesman, the Forum will discuss a possible collaboration on the use of football as a vehicle for economic revamp and engagement of the very large Nigerian youthful population.
He said, "it is expected that this collaboration would yet again reveal the sporting aura ,cerebral organization and outstanding philanthropic side of the Nigerian icon with the agreement expected to be tailored towards the development of Nigerian young people to become self reliant and appropriately prepared for professionalism in a global sports industry".
The Forum is poised to be led by Barr Seyi Akinwunmi (the first vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation) to pay Aare a visit in Ado Ekiti early in the month of September where more details of this august development will be unfolded to both Nigerian and international media..
