Making Oshoala captain may destroy Falcons – Mbachu

By Tosin Oluwalowo

Former Super Falcons star, Stella Mbachu, has disagreed with the decision of acting coach of the side, Christopher Danjuma, to name Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshola, captain of the team.

Mbachu in a chat with our correspondent on Wednesday said what was going on in the Falcons camp was different to what was obtainable in her time in the women’s national team.

“Why will Asisat be named the new captain when Oparanozie is still in the team? Why the confusion? How will Danjuma do something like that,” Mbachu told The PUNCH.

“This was not how the Falcons were during our time, that’s not how the previous coaches, who had handled the team before now did.

“Then, seniority was put into account when a captain was to be named. I remember when I was assistant captain; I got it because of how old I was in the team. But now, they just decide to choose anybody as captain.”

She added that the change in leadership in the Falcons team might affect team unity in camp.

“This their style of changing captains of the team without any reason will scatter the team.

“Danjuma should not have named a new captain due to the fact that he is only in acting capacity, what happens if Dennerby comes back,” she concluded.
