Four Eagles on target in Europe... Aina, Omeruo net important goals for respective clubs, Ighalo caged

It was a mid-week of goals for four Nigerian stars in Europe with two gangling forwards leading the charge although it was the defenders that saved the day for their respective clubs, BSNSports.com.ng reports. In the Spanish second division, Sadiq Umar returned from a one-match suspension to fire his promotion-chasing side, Almeria to an eighth-minute lead away at Kenneth Omeruo’s CD Leganes. The strike was Sadiq’s 12th in 22 appearances in his first season in Spanish football following his switch from the Serbian side, Partizan Belgrade in October last year. The host however regrouped in the second half and scored early in the 48th minute to restore parity before Omeruo chose to score his first goal of the season in the last minute of regulation time to hand Leganes all three points. The goal was Omeruo’s second in 66 league games in Spain having scored once in 51 LaLiga games last season. In Belgium, RC Genk’s fortune refused to change for the better in three consecutive games but that of Nigerian forward, Paul Onuachu witnessed a reversal. The gangling forward scored his 23rd goal in 26 games in Genk’s 3-1 loss at Oostende. The Super Eagles had gone two games without scoring and it was looking like it will be three in a row for the first time this season before he fired in a 10th minute penalty to give his side an early lead. In England, Ola Aina turned from the provider (in the 2-0 defeat of Everton) to score his second goal of the season as Fulham returned from Turf Moor to Craven Cottage with a point in the bag after they were forced to a 1-1 draw by their host, Burnley. Last weekend Aina provided the assist for a countryman, Josh Maja, on loan from French Ligue 1 French, Bordeaux to score his first Premier League goal. The game was Aina’s 20th this season and now has two goals and one assist to his name. Meanwhile, Odion Ighalo fired blanks in his first start for his Saudi Arabia club, Al-Shabab who lost 2-1 to visiting Al-Fateh at the Al-Shabab club stadium. The former Nigeria international was on for 63 minutes before he was subbed off for Turki-Al-Ammar.
