Futstar Youth League has been unveiled on Saturday, 8th February 2020, in Abuja. The League which focuses on discovering budding footballers in private secondary schools within Abuja also provides platform for the discovered talents to combine football career with education.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the League, Mr David Doherty, it will also serve as feeder team (providing young players) for the top Nigerian Professional League sides to replace their old but experienced ones.
The league, though tentatively, will kick off in March, 2020 where professional referees are hired to officiate the matches.
The programme also provides an opportunity for students to learn the skills of football refereeing under the tutelage of the professionals.
Not less than 20 schools who have wonderful facilities have registered for the league which will be played on a home-and-away basis. However, the game will be played on 5-aside and 11-aside basis, depending on the pitch of the registered schools.
The organizer starts with the private schools so as to reduce the financial burden but promised to tap into the budding talents scattered around the public schools.
