Gabon government disbands Panther, sacks Cousin By Sampson Adedeji Basic Sports in Nigeria can report that the Gabonese government has disbanded the team with immediate effect, following the inability of Panthers of Gabon to secure qualification to the AFCON 2019. Gabon senior men's team failed to get needed results against Burundi in Bujumbura in the last round of matches in the qualifier despite having Arsenal's striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in their line up. The country government through the Sports Minister, Billie By Nze announced the decisions on Wednesday. Gabon finished 3rd with 7 points from 6 matches as group C winner, Mali garnered 11 points while runners up while Burundi has 9 points in the just concluded 2019 African Nations Cup qualifier. And apart from disbandment of the team, the team coach Daniel Cousin was also given the boot. He directed the federation to get another coach within 60 days and start recruiting new players for the national team. The 2019 African Cup of Nations finals holds in Egypt in June with 24 African countries ready to fight for honours.
