Garba Lawal Slams Rohr Over Negative Tactics By Admin Ex-international Garba Lawal has hit out at the Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr over what he described as negative tactics deployed in recent matches of the national team. Lawal said the team was playing boring football now as the coach failed to explore the attacking potentials of the players in his squad. He said Rohr’s cautious approach had been evident even before the last World Cup in Russia but had now been taken to a disturbing level when the Eagles defeated Seychelles 3-0. “Was that Seychelles game a competitive match? Eagles were as boring as their hosts. This was a match we should have won by a big margin but we managed to put in three goals against such an amateur side. Some of us knew it was going to end that way when we saw the lineup. Rohr used two defensive midfielders against Seychelles; I didn’t know what he was thinking by starting Ogenyi Onazi and Wilfred Ndidi against a side you should have put to the sword. It showed lack of confidence and poor tactics. We have the players to attack such a team but we chose to defend instead. “Libya scored five against this team and don’t be surprised if South Africa beat them silly. They are the whipping team; Rohr is not helping the Eagles with such negative tactics, Eagles must play with flair, they have the players to play attacking football but the coach is not fully exploring this,” he said. The team confronts Group E leaders Libya in their next African Cup of Nations Qualifiers on October 10 and the former Roda JC player said the two-legged ties were going to be tough. “I watched Libya against South Africa and I discovered they are a very good side. They played good football and were very organised. It’s going to be a 50/50 match. We have to win our first game here if we are to qualify. The second leg is likely going to be more difficult but we can win both games if we work hard. The Eagles are still in a difficult situation despite winning against Seychelles; we need to defeat the Libyans here and even away to stand a chance of qualifying for AFCON,” he added.
