GAS U-15 Cup Draw Holds September 27 By Our Reporter Organisers of the Prince GAS U-15 Cup have fixed 27th September as the date for its draws. The 8th edition of the grassroot championship is set to now kick off in October at six centres in Lagos and Ogun State respectively. This year's edition will be staged in six venues in Lagos, namely Igando, Mushin, Ejigbo, Ebutte Meta and Abesan while Otta in Ogun State makes up the last venue. Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Prince Gbadamosi Adebola Sulaimon informed that more than 32 teams in the Under-15 category have signified their interests lock horns for the ultimate prize in the soccer fiesta. "Plans are in an advanced stage as more than 32 teams have declared their interests in participating in the tournament. The ready teams are SGH Sports FB Academy Akowonjo, White soccer temple FB Acd Abaranje, Sharp Striker FC Ikotun, Future Star FC, Samjason Feeders, Golden Star Ejigbo, Balo FC Ikotun, Ultimate FA Ifo, Eminent Stars FA and Soccer Talent FA. "I want to appeal to the managers and coaches, only teams that have paid their full registration fees will be allowed by the LOC to feature in the championship "The date for the draws have been fixed for September 27th. The choice for the date is to give the managers and coaches ample time to be at the draws as they would have been busy at the weekend with their teams. " This edition, also promises to be better than that of last year in terms of officiating, as we plan to use graded referees for matches. "One challenge we have always taken seriously is age-cheating. For this year's edition, all goalkeepers must not be more than 55kg, while 50kg is for players. Teams must note too that their goalkeeper will be restricted to goalkeeping duties alone. This implies that they won't be allowed to take set-pieces (Free kicks and penalties during the game duration) but can take part in penalty shootouts." "All rules guiding the game and COVID-19 protocols will be strictly adhered to during the soccer fiesta. Teams who break such rules will be fined by the LOC. "Coaches and managers should ensure that their players are well dressed and be of good manners on and off the pitch. "Aside from the giant trophy and cash rewards, there will also be jerseys for the last four teams (semi-finalists), medals and other mouthwatering prizes for outstanding players in the tournament." Furthermore, it is not been easy stagging this tourney yearly, so I want to use the medium solicit for sponsorship from the private sector and well-meaning Nigerians who are passionate about the development of the game at the grassroots.
