Gernot Rohr faces sack

Gernot
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr could lose his job as pressure mounts on him following the recent disappointing outing from the side, BSNSports.com.ng reports. A crushing 4-4 draw in Benin and another goalless draw in Freetown meant the Eagles will have to win one of their next two fixtures to book their place at Cameroon 2021. Nigerians have questioned the competence of Rohr who has been coach since 2016. He guided the national team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and a third-place finish at last year’s AFCON in Egypt. In a recent tweet, Nigeria’s Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare expressed that the three-time African champions deserve a better and more competent head coach. "The performance of the Super Eagles from their last two matches calls to question the suitability and competences of Technical Adviser, Rohr. Nigerian football deserves better. The needful will be done. Apologies to all football lovers," he said. The former Bordeaux manager signed a two-year contract extension earlier this year with the Nigeria Football Federation. The Super Eagles have not won a game since, losing to Algeria and drawing to Tunisia in two friendly ties last month. Nigeria stays on top of Group L with eight points, one better than the Benin Republic and five ahead of Sierra Leone.
