Getting Tokyo 2020 Ticket was tough - Nigerian Table Tennis Star Admits

A Nigerian table tennis star Edem Offiong, who is representing the country at the next Olympic Games in Tokyo, has revealed that her qualification for 2020 Olympics did not come on a platter of gold.

Offiong told the anchor of BCOS TV's Fan's Forum, Boluwaji Ogunmola that she had to win fierce battles against two home girls in Tunisia before he could qualify.

The Calabar born table tennis player who plies her trade in Madrid Spain confessed that securing 2020 Olympic ticket in Tunis was her toughest experience so far.

"Qualifying for Olympics wasn't easy for me as I had to contend with two Tunisian girls in my group in Tunis. I complained bitterly to the organisers because I saw this arrangement as unfair to me but favourable to the Tunisians", Offiong recalled on the sports programme produced by Adewale Tijani.

"However, I took my destiny into my hands and eventually qualified against all odds, after beating the two Tunisians and the Ethiopian in my group", Africa's number two table tennis player completed his narration.

Speaking on her preparations and expectations for 2020 Olympics, Offiong said she was looking forward to having a remarkable performance in Tokyo next year.
