Golf: Team B Emerges Champion of Maiden Golfsixes Tourney In Abuja

Team B was crowned champions at the just concluded maiden Golfsixes Championship at the TYB Race Course, Mambilla Barrack, Abuja, on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
The champion, Team B, comprises of Air Vice Marshall A. Jekenu (RTD), Air Commodore J.F Adeleke and Doctor Jide Attah won the two-day golf tournament with three ups and two holes in the final.
An elated Team B captain, Jekenu while speaking with BSN Sports said that the tournament gave them the opportunity to interact, exercise and test their proficiency in the game of golf among the senior citizens.
"We are happy to be the champions of the maiden Sixies Golf competition out of the 64 senior citizens that participated in the tournament.
"I must tell you that we are very elated, when we started yesterday, we were the last team that qualified. So, we have the lowest score in the preliminary on Saturday and this morning (Sunday) we played with the team with highest score and by the grace of God we defeated them and proceeded to beat other stronger teams to emerge champions, 3 ups with two holes.
"Well, the take home from this tournament is first, the participants are 55 years and above, so, that gave us the opportunity to interact exercise and test our proficiency in the game of golf among the senior citizens."
The organizer, Ekanem Ekwueme who pleaded for sponsors to rally support for the championship vowed to make it an annual event.
"The tournament was tremendous and very encouraging. I must say, I will do this over and over again. I am so proud of the fact that the senior citizens, the golfers who made up of the golfing community came out in en masse and are appealing for the event to be an annual one. There are lot of challenges, we couldn't get sponsorship to support but we hope for a better edition and we are happy that it ends on Valentine's day. We hope to continue and have sponsors to support."
Golfsixes tournament is organized for senior citizens who are above 55 years to show their skills in the game of golf. 64 senior citizens divided into 16 teams started the tournament on Saturday in Abuja.
