HANDBALL: Al-Ahly Are 2021 African Cup Winners’ Cup Champions By Our Reporter Egyptian powerhouse, Al-Ahly have been crowned African Handball Cup Winners’ Cup champions after dominating Morocco’s Wydad Samara in the final. Al Ahly qualified to the tournament for the fourth consecutive year after winning the Egypt Cup against league champions Zamalek. The Red Devils finished top of their group with six points, with their final group stage win coming against FAP of Cameroon. They were then up against Senegal’s ASFA in the quarterfinals and didn’t have any difficulty in beating their opponents as they came out victorious 49-23. Their biggest challenge yet was against 2010 runners-up G.D Interclube of Angola as they narrowly won 34-30 in what was a very tough encounter. They were then set to face Wydad Samara of Morocco in the final, who had the home advantage as the tournament was taking place in Meknes, Morocco. The game went back and forth between the two teams before the Red Devils took the lead by the end of the first-half and managed to come out on top 12-10. Al Ahly kept their lead during the second-half and even managed to increase it to end the 29-24 in their favor. This is now the fourth time the Cairo giants lift the African Cup Winners’ Cup trophy, despite having reached the final on seven occasions from the last seven editions.
