Handball Cup of Nation: Nigeria down again, drop to classification series

By Sampson Adedeji

The hope of Nigeria Men's Handball team to play at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic has finally been extinguished at the ongoing Handball Cup of Nations in Rades, Tunisia.

The Nigeria side who suffered a defeat to Angola in the opening group game was hoping to bounce back against Gabon on Friday night but it was never meant to be as they bowed to Gabon handball national team.

It was a tight game but the Gabonese edge the Nigerian team in both halves 14-13, 12-11 for a total score of 26-24.

The defeat means that Nigeria has been eliminated from the competition and will now have to compete in the classification series.

Nigeria will play Libya on Saturday in the last group game.
