HiFL: Enyimba, Kano Pillars Jostle For Odenigbo Ebuka Signature By Admin Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs are scrambling for the signature of Odenigbo Ebuka – the highest goals scorer at the just concluded Higher Institution Football League (HiFL). Odenigbo Ebuka, who captains the University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAM) Tillers, scored eight goals to emerge the highest goal scorer of the league. He told Daily Trust in a chat after the finals last Saturday that three clubs in the Nigerian top flight have shown interest in signing him. Odenigbo’s UAM Tillers were crowned champions of the maiden edition of the HiFL after defeating University of Calabar (UNICAL) Malabites 5-4 on penalties shootout. According to him, Enyimba, Kano Pillars and one other top flight club have contacted his director, saying that they have interest in signing him. “After the match, my director just spoke with me right away that three clubs have called him. They are Kano Pillars, Enyimba, I don’t know the next,” he said. The elated striker commended the doggedness and resilience exhibited by their opponents and the sponsor, adding that their opponent fought a good fight. “We appreciate our opponents, they did well, were very good but they didn’t take their opportunities. This trophy means a lot to me, before the competition, I knew we were going to win because of what we have on ground, not just the players but the officials. “I thank the sponsor for making us champions today, I believe without them, most of us will not know Lagos. I believe most of my teammate playing today are not doing it for the fun but to make a career out of it,” he said. But in a phone chat with the director of sport UAM Tiller, Mr. Spencer Chile, he said the chap (Odenigbo) is a final year student, adding that the institution will ensure that he complete his education before joining any club. The Director of the PACE Sports and Entertainment Marketing (PSEM), Mr Sola Fijabi revealed 32 Universities will play a minimum of 72 games in the 2019 HiFL, adding that private and state universities will be included in subsequent league tournaments.
